hi guys, I’m looking into buying a chiller for my 100g tank. I was wondering 2 things, is there a general rule of thumb like with vectron sterilisers, the number of the item such as a vectron 600 should be halved to ensure maximum clearance is reached in a tank and that you have a number larger than your litres. Does the same apply to chillers and secondly does a chiller need to be re-gased or have any refrigerant canisters changed?

Most aquarium chillers are self contained sealed units. They don't need charged or recharged unless something happens which leaks gas. I have been in hobby for 25 yrs or more I have 3 chillers just as old and never had one needing gas.
For 100 gal 1/4 hp chiller will work as long as your tank is setup inside the house with air conditioning or 1/2 hp or more if it's in a garage or outside where there is no ac.
