Chiller in winter

So here in australia we are going in to winter, the running chiller gets replaced by heaters kicking in.
The question is what do you chiller users do with the chiller in winter when not needed. Do you leave it on the system and water keeps running through but won't be chilled, do you stop the flow to through the chiller but leave it in place, or do you disconnect the chiller and store for the next summer.
This is my first winter with my tank and just not sure what i should do, energy savings vs disconnection.

I'd just leave it turned off with water running through it because I wouldn't feel like cleaning the inside to stop any detritus from settling...I've never cleaned my chiller because it's always hot here but I've heard a lot of stuff can build up in there and would need to be cleaned if water wasn't running through
