I have a friend who is looking at using an Aquarium Chiller for a cold bath looking to get the temperature down to 40ish degrees. Does anyone know if these chillers will be able to drop the temperature that low?

Thanks!

You need to oversized one, or get one made for that. Most cold baths that I have seen in locker rooms have 220v chillers.

If you had a small enough body of water, then a normal aquarium chiller might be able to get the water down to 40 degrees, but I doubt that it could keep it there once you put a body in it. This might be OK since you are not in there for long. Ice could get you the extra part of the way. A chiller like this will need vented to the outside since the heat that it pulls from the water will be pretty large and it has to go somewhere.

I do have a lobster tank chiller with drop-in coils that does a much better job than than a typical aquarium chiller. Commercial vs hobby grade.

If you want to use an aquarium chiller for ice baths then your tub shouldn't be too big.

And I think you should add proper filtration, which is good for the body.

Also ice can be added to speed up cooling during use. I remember people trying to use salt to cool it down, I haven't tried it but it seems to work.
But the effect has a lot to do with the weather of the day.

I found it and I will try adding some salt and you can make the attempt as well.
Waiting for my test results.
