Hey reef2reef! I've had a coldwater tank for about 2 years and my iceprobes finally went out, I figured they didn't work too great anyway and by the time I replace them both, I will have almost bought a compression chiller soooooooo, on the recommendation of my LFS, I bought a current USA nano chiller the 1/15 HP. I thought that would solve my problems except that the pump I bought (on the chiller's original owner's recommendation) a mexi-jet 1200 is waaaaaaaaaaaay too powerful even for my 55 gallon, so I ficured it would create a sandstorm in my 10 gallon even after the chiller. any advice? Thanks!

If its not too much trouble i would just take the pump back and get one at an acceptable size. Or just put a valve somewhere in the line so you can limit the flow going into your tank to the flow that you like.

What is your setup like? Do you have a sump that you can circulate water back into? Then you could get the flow that you want through your chiller. Personally, i wouldn't worry if you are under the recommended water flow. If it does the job it does the job. The chiller just won't work at its maximum capacity. which the chiller is probably a bit big for your system anyways so that shouldn't be an issue. You won't know until you try it.

at present it's an 8 gallon acrylic nanocube(for better insulation) , but it was a 10 gallon glass, no sump, though I was thinking I may put them in the ten gallon and use the 8 gallon as a sump when the chiller arrives, that's a really good idea though, thank you.
