It's been a long time since I've seriously researched chillers, my past experiences proved I don't like them. So now today with all the new tech, is there a chiller that can be mounted outside where the temps will get to 110(Vegas).

My experience is they are too loud and hot to be in the same room, and to double that annoyance, I was hoping to put the tank in my bedroom. My house gets to 84 during the day and I've kept my tanks at 80 all summer with just fans, I currently have tanks in 3 rooms.

This tank I will need to keep around 73, and I know fans alone will not cut it, it will be a 40g. While I've had some luck with the thermo-electric style(ice probe), I'm thinking I need a real chiller, theoretically a 1/10 should get me there, all the ones I've found recommend indoor use, and are based on drop from ambient temperature.

I think I'm going to have to put it in another room, OR has anyone ran one from as far away as 15 feet. In that case I am sure a 1/4 would be in order. It is turning out to be more complicated than I had hoped. Thanks

I've been running the Teco TK1000 since it's release.
Just about as silent as you can get.

Love that chiller and it heats to0.

I’ve always run chillers outside. I’d imagine that as long as you protect it from the rain, most will suffice.

Yeah I can't justify spending $700 for the tk-500 to get me where I want to go for two fish in a 40g. How about the heat that it puts off, I really can't imagine any unit not putting out heat, that's the physics of how the unit works.

Which units have you run, I thought they were designed to suck in air and cool down, how would it work sucking in 110 degrees. The ones I've looked at say they will drop the ambient temp by so many degrees, say like 15 degrees. I haven't found any that work more like a package ac. I could probably mount it for the exhaust to go outside, while the intake sucked air from inside.

I think you may be confusing two different things. Chillers are sized based on the volume of water that they can affect - say 200 gallons dropped by 10 degrees. It’s not drop versus ambient air temperature. Ambient air temperature can affect overall performance only in the sense that the compressor cannot be cooled properly which affects efficiency. I’ve had no issues with mine working on 100 degree days, though we don’t see 110 here in CT (well, not yet). You’d have to ask the manufacturer about working in 110. I’ve genrally used tradewinds, which were the best built in my option. Not sure if they make small model though.
