Chinese RODI booster pump... no adjustment?

Got this pump from a friend. Hooked it up to my RODI and it buried the needle WELL past 100 PSI. The RODI unit was shaking like crazy haha... quite the sight.

Anyways, there is a plastic screw on the top of the unit that DOES reduce pressure when loosened, but starts to leak water from it when loosened. Can only get the thing down to like 100-110 before water starts leaking from it.

I had a spare flush valve and I put that between the pump and the input to the RODI and was able to adjust the thing to 90 PSI. I can actually adjust all the way down to 30PSI with this. From what I can tell there isn't an adjustment on the pump itself, or if the top screw IS the adjustment, it doesn't give me enough room before it starts leaking. Is using this as the pressure adjustment okay?

I'd check the manufacturers rating on the rodi unit.

Just an update. I realized I didn't have the pump in the best location... it's best to place it after the prefilters and before the RO. I moved it there and it went down to around 100PSI. Then I read to put a valve on the inlet side of the pump to restrict feed, which I did, and easily adjusted it down to 90PSI.

Mine isn't in the best location either then.. I was having issues with the O-ring popping up in my first pre-filter. I guess this would solve that problem too!

It's a Chinese pump... I have a few Jebao pumps myself, and black box LEDs so I'm not above buying cheap stuff, but the Chinese as a culture are notorious for building cheap stuff with cheap parts and cheap labor. I would be surprised if it didn't leak or do something worse, like blow up.

What valve did you use?

a simple murloc plastic ball valve and it works great.
