Chip in corner of tank

Hi all I just bought this tank and in the process of moving the corner was chipped.

There are no cracks when shining a flashlight through the panel.

Am I safe to use it? It's a red Sea reefer so I don't think I can get just the tank replaced.

It looks ok from the pictures, BUT, depending on what caused the damage do you know if it’s done anything else to the seals or things you can’t see

It’s one of those things, it might be ok, but might not, and do you want to be worrying about it when it’s full of very expensive and living occupants. It might spoil your enjoyment, or get your floor very wet

Id say it looks okay, its right on the corner edge, a good think place for it to be, and looks like your tank is full of water, plus no leaks, your likely okay, just keep an eye on it, crack could spider but usally only does so with temp swings on glass like -10 celsious to +25

I agree with SPR1968 that it looks ok, but there is always a risk. It doesn't look like too deep of a chip luckily.

On that note, I worked for a LFS that chipped a reefer 750 pretty bad on the corner. I'm talking 3-4" up the side. RS wouldn't replace it so they ended up using it. Been going strong for almost a year.

Just know that the structural integrity of the glass panel itself is compromised, thus any small bump or flex of the glass could result in a big mess. Not saying it will, but it is more likely. If you're careful (and you dont have small kids, crazy dogs, etc.) then you should be okay.

If you can, I'd definitely water test it for a couple days and make sure the seals are still good. Good luck and sorry that happened! Welcome to R2R!

I would have no problem with the tank. I would call the dealer and tell them what happened and see if they would replace the tank. It’s a looooooong shot, but can’t hurt to ask. Worst case they just say no, maybe you get someone nice and they say yes.

But I saw sand, so if it is up and running I say go with it. Only other thing I would mention if it is not filled with water after you leak test outside like kris mentioned turn the chipped pane to the back so it’s less visible. I have a chip in my tank and every time I see it, it drives me nuts. Out of sight, out of mind
