Just curious on people's thoughts about using this tank. The chipped area is about 3 inches long and half the thickness of the glass. I know it's not the greatest pic but can post more later. It's also more than half way up the tank so not to close to the bottom. I planned on re sealing it but just worried about that spot.

You will automatically get the answer here that you should replace the tank.

This isn't always financially feasible and no, it is not a guarantee the tank is going to burst.

If you don't want to cut the glass out and replace the whole piece, you can reinforce the corner inside with strips of glass while you reseal AND reinforce the outside with expoxy coated steel angle iron.

It should last for years after doing this. It's not pretty, but it is functional.

I have experience doing this. I have built tanks. I have repaired and resealed tanks.

Now, after having said all that: Would I do it again? Nope. I would replace the panel. But, I am in no hurry anymore to setup tanks so I can save up the money to do it right if need be.

@Captain Quint one of these days, I am coming to visit you. But, you would have to take me fishing.

I bet we would have a blast!

No doubt my friend. We could fish, share war wounds stories at the table below deck of the Orca and drink and sing the song 'Show Me The Way To Go Home'. ;)

I will post some better photos, thank you for all the replies. I'm in no hurry to get the tank running so depending on costs I may look into having the panel replaced. Was just hoping a re seal would suffice.

Yes, but the similarities will stop there... I in no way intend to watch you bit in half!

Some more pics. It's mostly just broke on the surface, looking at it more it's probly only like a quarter way through the thickness of the glass on the outside. The silicone between the glass isn't damaged though.

As long as the mating surfaces of the glass are ok I would imagine it would be fine

Its really kinda of hard to tell from.the pictures provided but I would reinforce with some clear epoxy glaze just to be safe. If it isnt leaking chances are it wont as long as the sealant is intact, however for ever answer that you get that says it will be ok you're sure to have 1 that says replace it even though that's not always financially feasible. My father always told me dont fix it if it ain't broken so ride till it dies brother

It actually doesn't look too bad. It's it one big chip, or multiple smaller ones?

Here's the chip in my 190 corner. It's been set up for a total of three years at two different locations with no problems.

I filled it with silicone, more so that no one sliced their hand on the glass than structural integrity.

It's pretty much just one big one. It's about 3 inches long and roughly 4 inches from the top of the tank. Thinking about just putting some epoxy or silicone on it and maybe putting some silicone on the inside over the old stuff and filling it to see what happens for a little while. The tank was set up previously but I just want to be safe.

What caught my attention was your comment on planning to reseal, and looking at the rough silicone.
The combination of that and chip would not sit well w/ me, and know that silicone will not bond to old silicone, and it needs to be taken apart, majorly cleaned of all silicone residue, and rebuilt.

In my exp a chip that returns and completes like a circle is no big deal, it's when they spider web and a fracture goes into the panel that it can continue to grow, hope that makes sense.

I would not trust it as is, and if you rebuilt/resealed properly, I'd use a new panel, just my opinion.

Yeah the silicone doesn't look the best but I know it doesn't currently leak. The chip doesn't spider web off into the panel though, it's only on the end. Thinking I'd be better off just getting a new tank than putting the money/time of redoing this one. That's why I was thinking of filling it and leaving it for a bit to see what happens. Wasn't planning on setting up the tank for quite some time though so I will keep my eye out for another 150 or 125 to fit the stand. Was hoping I could get away with using this as is but I'm still unsure.
