How long do you leave the lights off while using CP? My replacement Tomi Tang is covered this morning in ick and possibly a few flukes but was fine yesterday when I put him in QT. I dosed at 60mg per gallon. First time using it so any advice is welcome and appreciated!

CP is tough to measure, and it's being researched how much things such as light, fish metabolizing, and other factors decrease the levels of CP in the water. I'd use light only for an hour or so around feeding time if the room gets natural sunlight and the fish can swim about.

This is also good practice for many fragile fish, as the lower light levels reduce their stress which is deadly for these types of species. It seems to help in particular with wrasse.

How about water changes in the QT? This is the first time in 25 years I’ve ever had a ick or fluke issue! I always said I guess I get the good ones, well my luck ran out with this new one. That’s what I get for getting a fish from petco. Never Never again! First and last fish I’ll ever buy there! But now I have him and want to get him better and live.

I would only run lights over the QT for 1 hour per day for feeding response/inspection of the fish.

There isn't enough data out there for CP degradation. Being it's an unknown and there is no way to measure the concentration on a regular basis it's the best thing to do.

For WCs just dose your WC to match whatever the tank concentration was dosed at.

Thank you @4FordFamily and @HotRocks! I’ve learned a lot from reading info from both of you. And the in the wall build is my inspiration for my 600 build although my wife will not let me cut into one of the walls lol

One more question skimmer on or off? I have it off right now. If off how long or should I not even worry about the skimmer just leave it off line and control everything by water changes?

You’re quite welcome! Thanks for the kind words, we are glad to help! :)

Regarding the skimmer, I wouldn’t skim a quarantine tank at all.

Agree don't run the skimmer when medicating. It would be fine to run once you are using the tank for observation purposes.

By the way we made sure Jason's wife wasn't around when we were knocking down walls and installing support posts. I made the mistake of joking with her that if the posts didn't work the worst that could happen is the kitchen island would end up in the basement... Bad bad idea!!! :)

Glad the build inspired you! Thank you for the kind words.

Now that’s funny! My wife is first generation from Italy and even at 5’ 115 lbs she scares the heck out of me so there’s no way that comment could be made around her and live to tell the tail! Lol

Hahaha yes this happened. That was a lot of fun. Thanks again for that!

Humblefish recently revised his recommendations using CP in a tank with an established bio-filter, to better account for degradation:

I remember when we discussed the issue with lights it was more geared towards reef lighting, or UV filters. I think the cheap, low-par lights generally used on QT tanks aren’t as much of an issue... unless you are using an extra reef-grade light on your QT- then you might want to leave it off for the duration.

Nope just a cheap Current USA Marine LED light. It lights the tank but as for PAR or PUR they do not produce anything to consider a reef light in my opinion. I think I’ll just leave it off for a few days and open the blinds on the other side of the room to allow a low amount of light in. Thank you for the link as I don’t remember reading that one.

Great find from Bobby!

Well after getting yelled at for so many boxes being delivered for the new build I just received another call from the wife. Yes I was very hesitant to answer it!
For no known reason the Tomi, Yellow Eye Kole Tang, and Pearlscale Butterfly were all found at the bottom of the observation tank. She said she feed this afternoon and they were like little pigs 3 hours later all 3 dead. She said the Queen Angel is perfectly fine which was the only other fish in there and the smallest of the group. I had her put all 3 bodies in a bowl of rodi to see if anything came off and after 15 minutes she said nothing was in the bowl other then the 3 fish and she used a clear glass bowl to see. If she wasn’t steaming mad then she is now as I have her doing a 30 gallon water change on the observation tank.

UGHHH Sorry to hear about this... :(

Had the fish been through treatment already? How long have they been out? Did she check silly things like salinity, temp, etc? Plenty of flow?

I did 2 weeks of CP then 2 weeks of prazi and they have been in the observation tank for 3 weeks. They were on schedule to be the first introduced to the new tank.
It’s a 55 gallon tank with 2 - 3000 gph powerheads, apex shows ph at 8.2, salinity at 1.025, temp 77. I’m just at a complete loss on what and why. The only thing I could think is possibly stray voltage as it’s a cheap heater and 2 cheap old hydor powerheads from a storage box. She doesn’t know how to use my fluke meter and her patience with me right now is zero so all I can do right now is pray the Queen Angel is ok until Friday when I return.

Tell her to stand on the floor barefoot and stick her hand in the tank. You'll know real quick if it's stray voltage. Typically it wouldn't kill them that fast unless it was really bad. I doubt the remaining angel would be acting normal either.

No contamination of any sort I'm assuming? I hate this for you I really do. Nothing more frustrating than losing a QTd fish, or three... :(
