Chloroquine Phosphate & Diamondback Drugs ordering

I would like to order Chloroquine Phosphate powder. My vet is ok giving me a script. I went to their website and created an account. I didn't see anywhere to place an order. It looks like if an order has been placed already, you can view and pay for it. Sooooo does my vet need to call/fax in a prescription first in order for it to show up on the web portal? Then I would pay for it? How does the the process work? I messaged/e-mailed them a few days ago and have not gotten a reply as of yet ;Bored Also, does anyone have a current price for a recent order placed for CP?

This depends on your specific vet (and your country). Speaking as someone who gets an enormous number of prescriptions for three special-needs dogs, normally the vet has to order anything special that they don't normally stock. They have to specify the strength and the form (I often have to order meds in liquid form). Then they will let you know when they have received it so you can pick it up and pay for it. Sometimes prescriptions from the vet need to be filled by a human pharmacy or even a special compounding pharmacy. Compounding pharmacies will usually ship to you but the vet (or MD) has to call in (or fax or email) the prescription.

If your vet has a website that allows for payment online for meds, then you have to speak to them to find out if you will get an alert and/or if the meds can be shipped to you. It will be different for each vet. My vet allows for payment online for products, but not meds.

Thank you. I know exactly what you mean as I have a dog that’s on three different medications with a total of 18 pills a day taken. I’m referring to specifically Diamondback Drugs though. I recently ordered 30 grams which is 30000mg of course. The cost was $40. Was slightly easier for me because I am a vet. When we order for a client we call in the meds and they will bill the owner and send it directly to the owners home

@Shufflepig I have an appointment with my vet Friday morning. I am planning on asking him if he will send in a script to Diamondback for me which I don't think will be a problem. He's been the Vet to four of my dogs at different times for over 20 years. And he did call in a script for CP to my pharmacist but in pill form. Still, I want to make things go as smooth as possible for him. There are several phone numbers on the website and I'm not sure which one to give him. Got my CP from Diamondback in the medicine cabinet. I had my vet order 10g with two refills. I figure this way I can have the refills delivered when I'm almost out up to one year to have as long a shelf life as possible. I like that the doses are separated in 1g packets. For a 20 gallon QT, it should result in +/- 50mg/gallon per packet which is perfect.

Since you are a Vet, do you know why it is almost impossible to get a Rx for CP from a Vet? I tried so many times

I’m guessing that since a majority of vets are not familiar with CP and very few have any experience with marine aquariums, they are concerned they’re writing a script without a patient/doctor relationship. Prescribing meds without that relationship can potentially get them in trouble with the state board.
I certainly think if you take literature that explains the use of CP for several marine fish diseases and also show them some photos of your tank that they may be willing to write you the script. Make it easy and tell the vet they just need to write the script for 30 grams and the directions are 40mg/gallon one time dose.
It’s a rare request for a vet so most are certainly skeptical. In 30 years of being a vet I’ve never had one client request CP

Thanks for the clarification, I wouldn't want to write a script if there is a possibility to get in trouble with the board. I tried to make it easy with the articles and photos but so far it's a no go. Maybe next time I'll ask the Vet to FaceTime my tanks.

Do you have a dog or cat you take to the vet? I would think if you had that relationship they would be more willing to write the script.

Just ordered CP from wedge wood pet. It was 250$ for 30g. Takes 4 days for them to make it.
