Hi everyone!

New to the forum. Have read some great helpful posts already on this forum.

I intend to use chloroquine phosphate in my qt tank for my new batch of fishes. However here in Pakistan i could only found the tablets as attached. I've read that 250mg tablets usually contain abt 150mg chloroquine base so need to dose more, however my question is once i've used CP in my qt can i reuse the sponge filter for next batch of fishes after thorough cleaning with vinegar and ro water.

Since i seed my sponge filter by keeping it in DT so was concerned whether after thorough cleaning can i seed it by keeping it in DT.

I recommend bleach, rinse, rinse, then dry to remove biofilm and meds. Then vinegar to precipitate copper into a harmless form, rinse, rinse, dry completely for several days. All the rinsing is with RODI.

Thank you for your response.

Although I don't think that Chloroquine Phosphate is anywhere near as durable as copper, I'd still be nervous about dropping that sponge into my display.

Can you get any "bottled bacteria" products, such as Bio-Spira or Dr. Tim's One-and-Only where you are? Either of those would be just fine for re-seeding the sponge.

personally i would never use anything between qt and dt. dump the filter sponge and use ceramic rings or media it will keep bacteria and not absorb any medication. this way you dont have to keep moving filters around..
which city in Pakistan? i am ex aitchisonian.

I have previously used Biopronto for seeding the QT.

Seems a better option than to take the risk of contaminating DT.

That seems a much easier option. Marinepure ceramic balls will do the job rite?

Im in Karachi.

Appreciate your input.

Marine Pure balls will host nitrifying bacteria, but won't be as effective at filtering particulates from the water.

so for future instead of seeding sponge filter/ceramic material by placing them in DT, should i just use some live bacteria bottle? Will this approach have any ill effects?

No ill effects. You can place ceramic media in main tank for about 2 to 3 weeks let it get seeded with bacteria and then you can bring it to qt, you can use bacteria in the bottle if you like but I'm not a big advocate of it.

I usually have sponges seeding in the sump, but I have used biospira multiple times with no issues if I didn't have a seeded sponge. Sometimes I add it to the seeded sponges just for extra bacteria.
