Hi All,

I purchased a Chocolate Chip Starfish a few days ago. I did the drip method and it did take more than an hour. I think it may be dying. It's the only thing in the tank. I fed frozen brine shrimp. The brineshrimp seem to settle at the back of my tank but the starfish hangs at the front of the tank. It currently has it's arms turned in towards its body. Is this normal?

Sorry, I’ve never had one because they are generally not reef safe. I’m surprised he’s not eating brine shrimp. You might have seen this , but

how old is your tank?

Whats your Salintiy?

They are actually pretty sensitive to salt swings...

I've had it setup for 2 months prior to purchasing. My water was tested at Petco. The lady said it was fine. I bought Imaginarium Pacific Ocean Water so that I did not have to worry about not preparing the water correctly.

It could possibly be the salinity. It now looks like it is drying out. I moved closer to the brine shrimp again, but it just moved away. I tested the water with at gome tests. All seems good. I have some Aquarium salt. Should i use it to make salt water in a bucket with less salinity or mix current water with plain tap?

Oh man my eyes are terrible with the color charts.

Do you have another way to test your salt level?

Like a hydrometer or refractometer?

If not, it may be a good idea to pick one up. They aren't expensive and will help tons!

Also ypu may want to pick up some easier to read test kits.

Red sea
Salifert
Giessmann
Elos
Hannah

All make good test kits :)
