Hey guys thought I would ask to see what advice I could get in order to be safe for the fish. I understand that tangs can be questionable together and species of and such. I purchased both juvinile flame fin bristletooth tomini Tang and a mimic lemonpeel chocolate tang. I noticed the tomini is swimming near and along side the mimic as to joke or instigate him I have them qt in a 29 biocube for a few weeks until my 180g reef is cycled. Now I do have a 38g established aquarium and am wondering even though they haven't gone through qt if I need to separate should I put the tomini in the dt or the mimic? Ive been watching them and I'm having a difficult time seeing if it's horseplay, dominance, or fighting behavior. I've been looking to see what to look for and haven't seen a clear cut answer. Any help is appreciated!

its best to introduce them at the same time. I had a mimic tang that didn't take garbage from any fish. But anyways just keep an eye on them and look for any ripped or torn fins. Sometimes they just aren't compatible. putting them in a larger tank may help, but with how notorious tangs are for carrying diseases I'd continue to qt

Oh I did forget to mention I did put them in at same time. If there are ripped or torn fins what would be the best way to lessen aggression or how long until it potentially subsides?

if one is getting bullied over the other then adding the bullied one first could help. Sometimes putting a mirror on a tank can help get rid of some aggression. Sometimes fighting can be over food so make sure they are adequately fed. Sometimes it can just be because its a similar looking fish. There isn't really any one way to fix aggression and it doesn't always work

Ok so those 2 seem to be ok together. Tomini has a couple little spots on the back part of his top fin. Seems to be doing ok this morning and both are eating well already. Maybe had to establish pecking order but they seem to be getting along ok this morning.

Here they both are. They both seem pretty friendly or tolerant of each other today.

Just today i added the same to tangs to my qt. The tomini tang has suffered a few ripped fins. And have been behaving just as your described yours. The tomini showing the damage but not leaving the mimics side.
Hopefully by your account mine will be settled out by morning.
Was it a continued good relationship?

Both are doing well got them moved to the 180g and are still best buddies. No agression just a childish roughhousing once in awhile. Added a few others since and we are adding a desjardini sailfin soon. Got him and broke out in velvet bad. Good luck with them and I hope your two are buddies just like ours!
