Okay so I’m getting back in touch with my 20g and I’m going to be picking up and qting a fish today. I have a choice between a tailspot blenny and a rainford goby. Personally I like both fish and while not the sole reason I’m getting them I hope which everyone does eat some algae.

I’ve had a tailspot blenny before and he was the most docile fish and was fun to watch. He would perch up inside my trachy quite often.

Rainford goby I’ve never had but love the colors and heard it will readily cyano and hair algae.

Another option is to pickup both fish but I’m not too sure of that in a small 20g.

Current stocking is
2 black ice clowns
3 trochus snails
4 bumblebee snails
2 tuxedo urchins

I would ditch the blenny if you plan for coral like LPS or SPS, I’ve had many blennies from Escenius turn bad.
As for the goby, consider Koumansetta hectori - Photos don’t do this fish justice, the golden lines are stunning. Both Koumansetta species will eat Cyano however Hectori seems to do a better job at it.

If u have a lid and money is tight. Go with the rainfords
D
Neither of these guys will cost me more than $20 so not an issue haha

sadly I just don’t like the hector gobys it was in the short list though. My tailspot was about a year or so in my tank with lps and sps no issue so not too worried there either.

In my experience, the rainfords court jester gobies are difficult to get to eat prepared food. They only want to pick at pods. I do belive biota is offering some captive bred versions that do eat frozen foods though. They are super cool fish.
I do not know where my lfs gets them but I’ve seen them all eat frozen food regularly so that’s a plus. Thanks for the input!

I personally wouldn’t put your hopes up to a specimen you had for a year, I had my lineatus for almost 2 years as a model citizen and then he turned on my SPS.

I've never had a tailspot blenny, but I have a white-lined combtooth blenny which is similar and he's hands down my favorite fish. Little fish but such big personality.
