I recently upgraded to a 180g reef. The Sixline I had didn't make it. Don't know why, he looked perfectly healthy. Anyway, now that he is gone, I want to put several wrasses in. I think I want a Scott's Fairy wrasse pair. I would like three wrasses or two mated pairs. I don't really know that much about them so I need your help in deciding which ones to add. If Scott's isn't a wise choice, please say so...lol...and recommend something else.
Thank you for your help! Right now I have the following residents:

Sailfin Tang
Scopas Tang
Pink Tailed Trigger
Coral Beauty
Scooter Dragonette
Pink Spotted Watchman Goby
Long Nosed Hawkfish

I am going to start going SPS heavy.

My favorite wrasse is the radiant wrasse, it's just beautiful. I'd definitely put one in. The fairy wrasses are nice as well, and so are flasher wrasses.

Only 3 or 2 pairs (goodluck finding actual mated pairs tho...)???? You need more then that with a 180 :) lol

Here are some of my favorites from each group:

Flame Fairy,
Scott's Fairy,
Red Velvet Fairy,
Orange Back Fairy,
Pink Margin Fairy,
Hooded Fairy

Eightline Flasher,
Carpenters Flasher,
Blue Flasher

Yellow "Coris" (every appropriate sized tank should have one IMO)
Radiant wrasse

The entire leopard wrasse family lol

How much do you want to spend?

Thanks! Ya know, I will probably end up with a tank full of them! I like to keep price as reasonable as possible, but if its more than I can spare, I just save up until I can buy it.

how much you want to spend is KEY!!! basically any wrasse will be good with that setup i prefer the melenurus and yellow coris to keep bugs and worms away also leopards are super pod killers so make sure you get a fuge or supplement ur tank with live pods till you get em eating frozen or pellets if you get that lucky lol

My favorites are:

Flame
Mystery (can be nasty though)
Pink margin
Rhomboid
Radiant

I had a female Scott's and it was nearly impossible to find a male mate:( one of my favorite wrasses for sure though along with lineatus wrasse!

I recently acquired a supermale Nahacky wrasse. I honestly could not take my eyes off him. Another one is chaoti wrasse, definitely breath taking to watch and it has a funny behavior, but it is very hard to keep. Lineatus and Rhomboid are easy to develop swim bladder disease, my buddy had tried 3 Rhomboids and finally gave up on them, whereas I am on my second lineatus lol....good luck.

Scott's are very aggressive and often do not tolerate other fairys.

I'd think twice about adding a pair of them along with other fairys.

Also note, wrasses do not "pair" as clowns do. There is no bonded relationship. It's all about dominance and submission, just as are Anthias.

Thanks Evolved. Good information. I'll have to rethink things a bit.

I like the nahacky. Mine grazes on algae. here is a pic of mine flashing for the female.

Beautiful Steezy! I got a Blue Flasher yesterday. Was in the LFS and saw him. He was beautiful. They told me I could mix Fairies and Flashers...I hope that is true.

OK Will do. So far he is still hiding. Maybe he will come out soon. The LFS had him in quarantine for 3 weeks and said he was eating fine.

I promise he's not eating algae...

In general, true indeed. Provided you make the right choices in mixing species; not all will work.

A little off topic, but not far.

When you want to have multiple wrasses in a tank, do you need to add them all at once, or can you add 1 fish at a time?
