Still a bit away from actually setting up the next tank, a 90 gallon reef, but have been collecting pieces so when the rooms done Im good to go.

I've never had a sump before so this will be a first. Originally planned on building my own from a tank, but thinking it's best with my zero experience with sumps or building tanks to just buy one pre made set to go out of the box. Anyone ever use the Icecap series? I like that it has a ato reservoir on it already and the layout seems to be what I'm looking for. I have a reef octopus classic 150 so pretty big footprint. Also I don't really want a refuguium with a light to create algae and extra messes ti clean out of my sump and pumps, hoping to just place some pieces of liverock in the sump to help with pods.
I built my stand and if I got a 36 inch sump I have almost zero room for anything else in the stand so thinking the 30 inch sump is the way to go. What more important to you guys, maximizing the size of the sump or planning the best layout for under your stand so you can fit everything and have room to add things down the road?

Welcome to R2R! I've got an Eshopps RS-200 under my 90. Plenty of room. It's 30" x 12" deep x 16" tall. I like it a lot. I got it for many of the same reasons you listed. Happy New Year!

I have a 90 as well and I am running an Eshopps gen 3 R300, I love it but you said you don't want a refugium. Vertex has a couple really nice products if you don't want a refugium.

I just got the 36 " Bashsea sump with refug but you could use that area for something else. Or your skimmer and other reactors. It is super thick--3/8 I think. They have smaller sizes and none fuge ones as well. Price was 360.00. My stand inside is 68". I wanted enough room to build an electrical boxed area to keep plugs and controllers away from splashing water. anyway, check them out as well. I asked for imput and got great feedback. There is a thread somewhere on the bashsea sump I started. Haven't removed protective paper from sump yet. Here is their website

Thanks for the replies, I looked into the Eshopps and the 200 will not fit my skimmer, need an 8X12 section, and the 300 would be so large I have no room for anything under my cabinet besides a sump.

I never heard of Bashsea before Ill look into them thanks for the links.

I guess no one has any experience with the Icecap brand? Makes me nervous when I dont see many reviews on such an important item.

I have precision marine on my 90.
I like it due to the fact it was the easiest to clean, (no top braces and no braces over baffles etc.).

Lots of room in the compartments because they dont add un-needed stuff like water leveling pannels and stuff and more stuff. Simple, strong, inexpensive sump.
