Hi everyone, I joined the site a little while ago and thought I'd make a tank thread to document my progress and ask for help along the way. The tank has been running for a good few months now and I've been taking it nice and slow with the stocking but I'm going to now start pushing on with this.

Tank Specs.

Tank: Reefer 250 in black aquascaped with Marco rock with Caribsea Fiji pink sand.
Lighting: 2 AI Hydra 26hds
Flow: 1x Vortech MP10wqd and 1 AI Nero 5 (will be swapping the vortech for another Nero 5)
Skimmer: Bubble Magus curve 5
Heater: Schego titanium heater with DD temp controller
RO Unit: Osmotics ultrapure
Salt: Red Sea blue bucket.

Anyway that's it for now I will update regularly with plenty of pictures

I recently installed a Reefer 250 only a few weeks ago and started with one Nero 5, please let me know your thoughts after you add the second one.

Thanks guys I am going to be making a board to mount all the electrics on in a few days so I'll put some pics up of that. I went on the lookout for some frags today but no luck. I do have a couple coming this week though.

Thank you I don't know about you but i'm really impressed with the nero 5's performance overall. The magnet could be better, but apart from that the flow it creates is fantastic. I think with a second one i should be able to create some really nice flow patterns. Also on the shopping list is a doser.. I'm looking at the new DD one. At the moment I'm very lightly stocked coral wise so I'm just doing weekly 10% water changes to maintain parameters.

Of the two I prefer the nero both in terms of the cobtrolability via the AI app and the flow it produces. The only downside is the cable in the tank and the magnet could do with be a little stronger although the pump has never fallen.

The Nero 5 is rated for 1/2 inch glass which the Reefer 250 has and I haven't had a problem with the magnet yet. Right now I have it set to Random mode with the minimum speed at 30% and the maximum speed at 60%, the variance is low.

I went to a LFS today and picked up a lovely royal gramma, really nice size so I'm pleased with that ill try and get a pic once he emerges from the rock! I also did my water tests today here are my current parameters.

Salinity 35ppt
Temp 25.8c
Nitrate 2.5ppm
Phosphate 0.008mg/l (Elos high res kit)
Alkalinity 9.9Dkh (Trying to bring this down slowly)
Magnesium 1380ppm
Calcium 460ppm
PH 8.15

I'm surprised by my Alk as I've recently switched from red sea coral pro to Red sea blue bucket in the hope I can slowly bring my alk down to around the 8Dkh mark but it doesn't seem to be falling!! Next time I make up my salt mix I am going to test the Alk. I have a week off work next week so will be going further afield coral shopping as well as doing some bits in the cabinet.

Interesting, my LFS said all that I needed was 200w. This makes me wonder about how they calculated this.

I’ve heard it’s recommended 3-5 watts per gallon.
