Hello everyone! So for Christmas my son got my some nice goodies. The only problem I'm havingnis that the green star tips stopped opening. Im feeding them polyplab reef roids. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PIC, THEY WERE OPENED.

There's algae growing on them, look at ways to remove the algae. Not sure how they'll react to it, but I typically use hydrogen peroxide as a dip to kill algae. Picture 2 is definitely algae, 3 looks like it but would need a less blue picture to be sure.

In my experience (and I’ve had a ton of Star polyps) these guys are pretty sensitive to changes. I’ve had mine close for a month after a tank move. I’d give them some time to open and adjust before doing anything too drastic. :) best of luck!

Looks like there is a little GHA growing on the frag plug. If the Tang is picking at it, they are probably irritated. GSP is pretty hardy. Once your Tang finishes off the GHA and leaves them alone, they should be fine.

This is good advice ^

I have a lot of GSP and it always closes after feeding reef roids to tank
Same here. Fed reef roids yesterday and all of my GSP closed up shop for the day. I also agree that it looks like some algae on the plugs. Never tried a peroxide dip, but the smart folks around here have never steered me wrong.

@WirelessMike just make sure you dilute it with RODI, I think its 1 to 4 ratio of 3% (H2O2 to RODI). It's working when you see it bubbling on the algae. The zoas I've done it on shed their exterior skin and then look brand new in a couple of days. There's a bunch of threads on it and videos, just find one of them and you'll be good. Also, make sure the polyps are closed when you do it, just swish them in the tank so they close up.

@Lkemja, are you sure that's not a Pipe Organ, rather than a GSP? Those tubes don't look anything like the two GSP's I have. I saw this on Tidal Gardens and they look really similar to yours, and at the 3:00 mark they mention having flow to dislodge detritus from the nooks and crannies. Which might be your reason for the algae.

Hmm I don't know. He showed me a pic of what they would look like. And it looked like the gsp.

Do I just dip it for a sec and put back in?

Thank you. So should I do peroxide dip?

Yeah, let me find the video I used so I dont steer you two wrong. I just dipped them in the mixture then rinsed in tank water/RODI, and back in the tank. They'll look really upset for a bit after it though.

The tang doesn't mess with them. At times my cleaner shrimp eats off them.even when I feed the fish and shrimp 1st
