Am I the only one who thinks me chromis don’t do well in copper? I use coppersafe at 2ppm I had a school of 5. Uronema seemed to kick in anyway and I have 1 left now. Do you think they are sensitive to copper? So I did a chromis only qt tank. Doesn’t seem to work. I’m determined to make this work. If the last one dies which it looks like it’s coming. I’m going to sanitize the tank start over abs wait for fresh fish to try again. Why chromis. I love them. Love how they swim together. Love the colours and the price
This is a subject dear to my heart and I want to give you my honest opinions. Smaller Blue Green Chromis are very active little fish. They are very sensitive too. The water needs to be hyper-oxygenated and they do better. I’ve even used pure oxygen and achieved better results, but not as good as I hoped for. One thing I’ve noticed about Chromis is for whatever reason they are Uronema magnets. About 10 years ago Snorvich said he gave up on them, but I was convinced I could figure out how to keep them all w/o any dying. I just needed to understand why they were dying.
Long story short...one night I searched a fish that had active Uronema. This was after the fish had been through copper, transfers, dips, FW dips, you name it. I literally put that fish through it all. He seemed to do better, but then took a bad turn once again. I could not understand it. I took the fish, did several skin scrapes, and collected some fin and gill clippings. After examining them for hours under the microscope I could not find ANYTHING! I was perplexed. I simply could not understand it. I was staring at the tank scratching my head and saw a nice poop line laying on the bottom of the tank. I sucked it up and put it on a slide, look at it and low and behold...URONEMA in the poop. After the fish died I cut him open and literally examined everything for hours. The fish was loaded up with Uronema internally!!
After I saw this, I gave up on them too. The only way is to give IM injection to the gut, but we as hobbiest are not set up for this. :-(
