so this is the secod time i purchased 3-4 chromis and they all die within 3-4 days. i purchased 3 last time and they died then i got a 6 line and a manderin and they did fine so i ordered 4 more chromis and they all died. it was the same water, same tank and i cannot figure out what is going on.....
Am i missing something?
i acclimated them with the same procedure i always do(temp float, drip then match salinity and add to tank minus bag water.

they eat the first day or two then start dying off one by one.

All parameters in the tank are normal and no ammonia so i cannot figure this out

When I bought my chromis the lady said buy a few more because a few will die.. I was like ummm no. Ill take 3. All 3 of mine are alive. My buddy bought 6 and he has 2 now...

Long as you temp acclimate and then use the drop method you should be fine. I also turn my lights off for 4-6hrs or leave off for the rest of the night when adding fish. I also use instant quarantine solution by blue labs i think. That kills any stuff on the fish but it still can bring in deiseses

Like what Neo Jeo said, temp acclimation is important. As well, there is feeding. Did these chromis eat the food you gave them and how often did you feed them?

Chromis, like anthias, feed on zooplankton in the water column and feed almost continuously. Going thru the global supply chain means they probably don't eat at all until you receive them. If you don't have a healthy plankton population in your tank, then you need to provide them with plankton sized foods that remain in the water column. I use LRS fish frenzy that I chop very finely.

BG chromis will often kill each other off - but not a just a few days. Suspects are disease, malnutrition or acclimation stress. Could be any of those. I highly recommend QT for them though. I bought 10 three weeks ago and have 9 left - I feed them multiple times a day to get them up to a maintainable weight.

thank you all..
it might be that i did not feed them enough so next time i will change that as i only fed them 2 times a day when i fed my MD. one thing i did notice when the last one died off was his right eye bulged out and was opaque in color, what does that mean?
after they were all gone i tested the water again and all parameters were perfect.

They’ll kill each other. Don’t know why. I started with six and now have 2. And even one of those is being picked on after 4 months of living peacefully.

When they die that quickly I would be looking at uronema being the culprit.

I've kept a lot of fish. I have very good success with saltwater fish, and consider them easy mode. Corals die. Fish don't die on me.

Except Chromis. every time I buy them, whether in a group or singles, they die within a day or two. I've heard the same story from a lot of people. I've stopped buying Chromis now. I guess there is a reason they cost $3.99...

They are not killing themselves off in a few days after being purchased. They have not even settled in yet and most likely still huddling together for security and because they are stressed.

They are not starved after a few days only either.

Something is wrong with chromis lately. To many are dying off fast in the hobby right now and so many are also getting uronema.
I would stay away from them for now unless you know how to treat diseases. I also suspect something else is changed in the collection of them.

There cheap because they are abundant.

I also was having problems with BG chromis, went thru 10 fish. Then I bought 4 from fishy business aquatics and changed my QT routine to @HotRocks method. It always seemed that when I would drip acclimate them and then put them in the QT tank they would stress out badly for a few days, stress marks and heavy breathing and then eventually die. After switching to the new QT method that was made by @HotRocks , @4FordFamily , and @Humblefish I didnt see no were near as much stress. I think it has to do with matching the salinity of the QT tank to the water in the bag, usually around 1.018 to 1.019.

The 4 chromis are now big, fat and healthy. Dont give up on them, they r great additions to a tank.
