Honestly, I've never gone through such fish related trauma in my life. I picked up 8 Chromis because you know, they're super easy and look great. One dies shortly after I get them home, the rest go into QT. Two die the next day. Then the slash marks appear. I search the forum and discover the devil. I purchase a two week supply of Metro, change 15g of fresh saltwater every day, feed them lobster eggs every two hours, relentlessly sterilize the 3 sets of everything. Two weeks later the original five are still alive, progress I tell myself. The next day, one has a small lesion, one has its tail nipped off, one is covered in slight red marks, one has a little bump on it. There not a chance in hell I'm putting these into any of my systems.

The time, effort, money I put into these animals for zero result is infuriating. I guess you learn the hard way, leave em in the ocean. I had to bite the bullet, they went into the freezer for the long nap.

Ta for listening.

Too many stories like yours about Chromis, in my opinion. Hopefully someone reads your cautionary tale in time... and it’s not like these fish are $2.50 each anymore. :(

Chromis is the one fish I will not add.

Agreed, same struggles I had with 5 in a 75g yeard ago. I want some schooling fish in my 270g but I am afraid the same fate will occur if I try chromis again.

I’m not knocking the fish— they are beautiful— and I’m not knocking anyone who has managed to find success in keeping a school of them, but when I tried about 7 or 8 of them it was the familiar case of ‘going, going, GONE’ in fairly rapid time. Uggg. :(
