So, I’ve tried researching many threads about chromis. Most of what I find is along the lines of “help, my chromis has red spots”. What I’ve failed to find is a thread on how to properly prepare for chromis and how to do preventative treatments.

I just ordered 11 of them (always wanted a school of them) for my 130 gallon tank. I’ve got a 20L Cycled QT waiting for them.

My question is, do I just add them to the QT and observe for a few weeks? FW dip them first? Formalin bath? Etc...

Thanks!

With chromis, one of the best things you can do is prophylactically treat with copper and metroplex. Feed vitamins the whole time of course and keep a close eye on them for any red or white patches.

So copper and metroplex at the same time? And start those right away, or give them a few days to settle in and start eating?

Do you have a recommendation on vitamins?

I lost my first couple chormis to uronema (red stripe on the sides). Now I quarantine all my fish with metro and copper.

Cp seemed to work for suspected uronema when I qt'd a chromis for a friend. It could be an option.

So can uronema lay dormant? Im always cautious about buying chromis because of it. I bought 5 chronis and QTd them. Didn't know about Metroplex at the time. Eight months later one developed uronema and died.

Edit: To better articulate, can a chromis be a carrier and not develop it?

If I’m dosing metro in water is it ok to also bind it in food and feed at the same time? Or would that overdose them?

So they showed up this morning. 2 of the 11 were DOA and unfortunately one of them had the red patch of uronema. They are all in QT now and I’ve started the metroplex

Anther one was dead this morning... down to 8. And one more wasn’t looking too hot

Anybody?

Home from work. Down to 4 now! Geez. Is this bad luck or did the uronema spread that fast?

Aaaaaand that’s all she wrote. All died within 2 days

Sorry for your loss. And for what it's worth, that's why Meredith, who works in a shop, has said, many times, she hates to see a new batch of Chromis come into the shop. Again, sorry for your loss.

Thanks. Yeah, I can see why Meredith says that now.
Guess I need to find some other cool small schooling fish

Dispar Anthias and or Blue Sapphire Damsels. Both are peaceful and a couple of my favorites. Got some in the QT right now . . . day 27 of copper.

Hm, I like those damsels a lot. I think that’s the winner! Thanks
