got a new group of 5 chromis into my established reef tank yesterday.

4 of them are doing great, one with no visible marks on the body (checking for red uronema) has a rapid respiration rate and did not eat. He is swimming in the water column but at a slower rate than the other chromis. not in the corner, not at the surface. In other words, everything looks great except his breathing rate is abnormal.

no ammonia, no nitrite, and 5 nitrate present as of this morning.

is this stress induced from shipment or what are your thoughts? I honestly didnt think he would make it over night but he is swimming more today however the respiration rate still is high.

Probably stress from shipment/capture. Don't think it'll make it, sorry. ALso be prepared to end up with just 1 chromis remaining, they tend to kill each other off in captivity. The LFS I buy from lists fish arrival dates and I try to buy ones that have been in the store at least a week or 2 to ensure they are adapted to tank life and still healthy.
