Looking for an opinion. The live aquaria divers den has trios of caribbean blue chromis being sold as a group. I thought that chromis typically harassed each other until there was only one. Is this the case? Is it really ideal to spend a ton of money on fish that will basically go all Highlander on each other???

They certainly can depending on size of tank.

I had 5. I now have 1. 3rd in line for jerk status in my tank. Granted, I can't attribute his jerkness as the sole reason for the untimely demise of the others but I'm sure it contributed...

He even scowls like the jerk he is.

I've heard the blue reef are less aggressive than the blue green. (The blue reef are dark blue with black, the blue green are a pale greenish blue) but they also dont do well for most people. It depends on the tank. I had 6 chromis 3 years ago and down to 3 after 3 years. I expect 1 eventually. Everything is a gamble, if you like them, you will hopefully still have 1 in the end.
