Hey all. New to the forums and fairly new to the hobby. I started my tank in late September/early October and have been loving it. I originally wanted to start it in the least expensive way I could think of going and have been trying to post videos on Youtube about my progress. The main goal was to show other people that it doesn't HAVE to be expensive to get into the hobby. My tank is a 75 gallon reef with a 1" sandbed. Couple inches in some areas thanks to my goby
I've got roughly 80+ lbs of rock. It was all dry when I got it and seeded with a few pieces of live rock.
So far along the way I've run into some very minor issues but they have been resolved. These issues were green hair algae, red cyano, and ich. YAY! All the stuff beginners love. The green hair algae disappeared fast after I purchased a sea hare which I soon found out was going to starve to death if I didn't get him to a new owner. Back to the LFS he went. lol. The red cyano was an issue I battled for about 3 months or more. I ended up getting rid of it by adding a diamond goby to turn the sand over, and a GFO/Carbon dual reactor. Not a sign of it anymore. Ich.....BLAH. I started seeing signs of it on my sailfin tang but figured it was sand that stuck to it. It wasn't very noticeable. Then I purchased a yellow-eye kole tang and the ich BLEW UP on the tangs. I started to treat with Kordon Ich Attack and garlic in the food. It only went for a couple days before I decided to stop so it didn't have any effect besides potentially stressing them out more because of rising levels. I decided to go au natural and just fed normal(without garlic) and kept everything running as normal. No more ich.
I built my own stand out of 2x4's and built my own version of a canopy out of 1x2's.
As far as my equipment goes:
Odyssea 48" HO T5 4 bulb fixture with 4 moonlight led's. I swapped out the bulbs for 4 ATI bulbs which are 2 coral plus and 2 blue plus. Love it!
Aqueon 700 circulation pump and a hydor evolution 750 circulation pump.
CPR HOB overflow which goes down into a Megaflow Model 4 sump rated for up to 210 gallons.
In the sump I have a dual reactor running GFO and ROX .8 carbon powered my an MJ-1200, Seaclone 100 protein skimmer, and my return pump is a Mag 9.5
I have my tank set up peninsula style so you can see all sides of the tank (save the side with the hob overflow) Pictures of everything posted below. Hope you guys like.
