Hey Everyone! I've been looking into a circulation pump for my 20H and was wondering if 500gph was too strong of flow for a FOWLR tank? The one I was looking at just went on sale but it's not adjustable though. Is 500gph too much with a Marineland Bio-wheel 150 filter going? I'll also have a refugium going too but wasn't sure about circulation or if that would over do it and blow the animals all over the place. Some posts have said it would be ok not to use a CP for a tank so small but I want to make sure oxygen is being circulated and need expert opinions. I do have a fake plant in there that the tips do move but it's below the filter which may be more bias in it's location.

Are you talking return pump or wavemaker? If the latter, I would probably look at one in the 200-300Gph range if you can't adjust the flow rate.
I'm not sure honestly. I just heard that a circulation pump is needed. I don't have a skimmer or anything like that. Just an HOB powerhead filter at the moment.

you can put a valve on it and dial the pump down if needed.. i would slightly oversize vs not having enough flow.. its been done for decades, it works
