So I have a 30 gallon aquarium and in it are to regular filters and a protien skimmer. I've been told I need a circulation pump. What is the difference in that and a power head?

i think that the power head gives a straight water flow.. and the circulation pump its wider.

i dont know if you understand what i mean hahaha

So I have a 30 gallon tank how many should I have

That depends on whats going to be in the tank your budget and how tricked out you what it. I have a 30 gallon I run one tunze pump it was 40.00 new but I should have 2 when I put more live rock in there. They have pumps that have different wave patterns and night modes and ect. now you would spend 285.00 on a new ecotech quiet drive mp10w. Is your tank going to be a reef?

Are you going to use an Apex? Tunze was the best pumps then ecotech came out with mp10's mp40's mp60's which can be controlled wireless by an Apex or a reef link. You should use 2 pumps one on each side of the tank. Jebao is the cheapest but some come out of the box not working so flip a coin. Can use post the equipment your using on here it makes it easier to help you.

So I just got my power head it's a national geographic. I only have one do I point out towards the top of water or more mid tank level

That depends on many things but in the middle trying not to have any dead spots in the tank so if the filter is on one end put the pump on the other blowing at it. To keep water moving in the whole tank.
