I need flow for the back of my tank. I am thinking about a vortech mp10. I am considering this pump mainly for the adjustable flow because I don't need much but want the power if this change. What do you think?

Depends on the size and what kind of flow you want. Tunze is great if you need the flow to reach. Vortech pumps are also great but their reach isn't as far. I think you'd be happy with either.

Agree with the above. I have two MP40's in my tank, one on either end and I need more flow in the back and at the bottom. I would like to stick with Vortechs, but I cant angle them where I want them. Also, what size tank is it? The MP10 is limits in glass thickness. I had planned on a MP10 on the backside of my tank but the glass is too thick and I did not want an MP40 on the back. So Im in the same boat. Ill go either a 3rd MP40 on the bottom rear of the right side pane or will add a Tunze. I just hate mixing pumps in one tank.

Have used both brands and you cant go wrong either way IMO

I pretty much need a straight current across 3+/- feet. I have a Red Sea e-260 with sump. Between the return, and two circulation pumps outfitted with "spinners" I get plenty of varied flow in the front. However, my scape is like a mountain in the middle so the back has very limited flow. But, at the same time, I have a lot of low flow corals in the back so I just need a little but if I change anything, I want the ability to increase flow.

I have a single Tunze 6055 which makes a wave in my 90 gallon (.7 secs on .7 secs off). The other flow is from the return. I was concerned that a wave wouldn't be flow but rather would just bounce the same water in front of the corals. It very much isn't. I've added all kinds of things to see the flow and it is pushed all over the tank really quickly.

This setup wouldn't be great, in my opinion, for sps but in a mixed reef with mostly euphyllia it works great. The wave action really moves all the water everywhere.

I am looking at 1/2" of glass and it looks like the mp 10 won't make it, is that accurate?

I use the Tunze 6040s at the back of my Red Sea tank, and they are great. The pumps are relatively inexpensive (~$140), are controllable and have a super small footprint. The pumps also have an adjustable deflector, so you can get the perfect directional flow. Also, I have them connected to my overflow (with one magnet inside the overflow) and you cant even tell they are there.

What size tank do you have?

Coral Vue sells an optional magnet for the Maxspect Gyre that will work on glass/arcylic up to 1 1/4" thick. 60.00 from Coral Vue
