I prefer muriatic acid for that (diluted), but 5 % citric acid is a good concentration.

The standard method for dissolving calcium carbonate with muriatic acid (which is far faster than vinegar because the pH is much lower) is to add 1 part acid from the jug to 9 parts water. Then use diluted acid.
Just be very careful to not spill it on yourself or in your eyes. Search on muriatic acid for a million threads on it.
