I recently installed the bigger of the 2 models in my sump. Total water volume is around 370 gallons. I had my main tank which is 250 gallons going to about 6 months without any sort of filtration system in place. I finally got my sump and was able to finish the plumbing project. I now have a 60g cube next to my 250g main tank. I have 30 fish total between the 2 tanks. I’ll get to the point, the Clarisea is certainly working but I’ve gone through 2.5 rolls in about 2 weeks!!! I have the flow bypass open 50% so it isn’t filtering all of the water. I estimate that I am running about 1000-1500 gph through it. Has anyone else gone though more fleece than they expected? Did I really have that much **** in my water?

Jesse, how low in the sump is the clarisea submerged? If the ClariSea unit is positioned so that only the bottom inch or two of the unit is in the water then there is a tall head of water pressure within the unit to force water through the filter and the fleece will last longer. Conversely, if the unit is almost fully submerged then there will be a low head pressure to force water through the fleece and the water level will rise easier, triggering the float and moving on the fleece.

The first roll should have been spent fairly quickly, but by now you should be closer to 6 weeks per roll.

I am installing the 300 in a smaller system so thanks for the tip^^^ @Jesse Evans How is the water, any noticeable improvement ? BTW 1500 gph is a lot of water, mine is only rated at 500 so i plan on splitting my return also.

It is indeed sitting near it’s max recommended water depth so the head pressure idea makes sense. I will adjust it pronto. Thanks for that! @siggy the water does seem to be more polished and I’ve noticed that the skimmer isn’t working nearly as hard since the install. I don’t have any flow meters installed so I just estimate based on head height and the dots on the vectra controllers. (I know, really scientific)
