I just bought it home from Reef-a-Palooza and saw the pink underside, I already have another clam in my tank and was hesitant to add this one if it was some sort of parasite/infection. Would love any reassurance either way!

It looks like red slime growing on the shell to me. Try to brush it with soft toothbrush and see if it comes off

Thank you I took toothbrush and gave it a light scrub. Some came off but there is still a red stain. Might just be a bacterial biofilm.

I replied on the brs forum, but in addition to what I put there sometimes clams will put variable minerals into the shell as well causing discoloration. I don't think anyone knows exactly why, but for example hippo clams often have red marking on their shells. In this case it looks like something externally on the shell though. I don’t find it particularly troublesome, but as always I recommend clam QT.

Thank you for replying both places. The BRS disintegrated pretty quick lol. I have the clam in QT!
