I found this in another forum:
"Ive taken some readings from an 18" cube aquarium. Its a fresh water aquarium but that will have very little bearing on the readings. As the Apogee sensor is the SQ-120 it requires a x 1.08 and correction factor due to the high blue LED spectral output and refraction of water at the sensor optic, i have included this in the calculations. Light set to full power (12k), readings directly under the light.
8" in air from the bottom of the light = 864 µmol m-2 s-1
Light 8" off of the water surface
6" under water 243 µmol m-2 s-1
12" under water 135 µmol m-2 s-1
16" under water 81 µmol m-2 s-1
Light 6" off of the water surface
6" under water 324 µmol m-2 s-1
12 " under water 216 µmol m-2 s-1
16" under water 118.8 µmol m-2 s-1

yup that's about right.
IMO dont sacrifice spread too much. and go slow in acclimation to higher light. you dont want to burn or bleach stuff.

If looking for another clam as stated above bigger the better! And depending on type of clam it will want different placement. Sadly yours was on its way out when you got it. Look for a nice beefy mantle and a good solid foot or byssal organ. Heres a pic of my beastly Noae

Thats about 3 inchea or so of my Clarkii. I went real big when i got mine [emoji14]

Mines still trucking along has grown 2 new sets of ribs in the past 6 months so hopefully be a monster soon., mine was 1.5.

They only have 2.5" clams
if you have enough light and good water, I personally would not be concerned. Will is a good judge of clams and the pics are true. My clam was barely 2in when I got it.
Ive been really trying not to drive over and look at them.

Thats not terribly small if its in good shape. Has good mantle extension and if you can see nice fresh white shell it means its healthy. As salty said he got his when it was small. They just take more attention and care when small. Plus need to be fed when they are in the smaller size range. What kind are you looking at?
