Can anyone help identify this clam:

Definitely looks like a derassa... the byssal opening just looked weird to me... more hippopus

Definitely looks like derasa but the shell is weird to me

There is definitely something different about this clam. The derasa in my tank is very different... thinner, more symmetrical, small byssal opening. The other one is totally opposite of this... I guess it is an odd ball derasa.

Well good sir, I would expect only a true connoisseur to appreciate the subtle beauty of the hippo clam!
I have one in my tank but there is really no point of getting two of them, while you can have 50 maxima, crocea, or even squamosa clams and not having two look alike

Here are my two hippos, the one really needs to be seen in person as the photo doesn’t capture the colors. It’s a layered metallic green and gold, and not all on the same layer, like someone overlapping metallic paints. Not for everyone but very interesting. The colors only really started coming out in the past year.

This one was more for the pattern which I thought was interesting. But they do look very different. More variance than I normally see on derasas, although maximas and squammys do have the variations beat.

Guess my phone wanted to upload my dog too... he is not related, haha

After seeing this, I think I change my mind. I will get one after all and hope for a colorful one.

You just made me so happy! Haha.

These are from dr Mac, he gets lots of different types but it did seem like it really only got these interesting colors in the past year.
