Here is another question for all you clam nuts.... My display tank decided it did not want to hold water any more after 6 yrs of service. My neighbor saved everything by putting all the inhabitants in his tank. Just so happened I ordered a crocea the day before all this happened........This was about 4 months ago.. I just got my "fixed tank up and running with new live sand and my old live rock. How long should I wait to introduce my clam in to my tank. The clam is a healthy 6" and all my water conditions are great. thanks to Dr. Tims the cycle is done.......Thanks in advance!!!!

Dang, sorry to hear of your old tanks early retirement...

I would wait at least six months before adding the clam to the new tank if your buddy would still hold it for you in his?

+1 on the waiting awhile longer. Putting the clam in and there not being enough nutrition In water column for it filter can cause it to starve to death over a few months. As Skinz78 suggest perhaps your good friend can hold it for awhile longer or sell it (unless it was a great deal and gorgeous clam) recoup your money's and wait a few more months.

I just upgraded from a 15g to a 40b, only about 15lbs of the rock was established, used new live sand, etc.. I had a crocea in the 15g that transferred over and never even flinched. I also bought a new maxima within a month of setting up the new tank, it's doing great as well..

if you're using your old established live rock and you're not in a cycle, I'd say you're probably fine.. it'll help to keep the skimmer turned off for a while if you add a clam..

So sry to hear about the tank. I don't know a lot about clams but when I set my tank up I waited 3 months befor I got one

Thanks everyone for the replies....... My buddy said i can keep it there as long as I want.. Ill give it a few months and not run the skimmer (only 3 fish in a 75gl).

I started over with everything new except 80# of live rock about 2 weeks ago. I put some Dr. Tim's one and only in and it finished cycle a couple of days ago. I will put my yellow tang and clown along with a couple of my softies tomorrow. It did go through a cycle but not a big one that you would have with shrimp cycle. all perimeters are great. I'll be adding 4 more fish at the end of the month and start adding the rest of my corals gradually. I hope this is the last major break down i'll have for a long while (i've had 3).
