Hey everyone, I know there's plenty of posts where all the basics of Clam care are listed, but I wanted to get a post up about my specific tank and see if a Clam is possible in the future.

I maintain a 20 long with a 4-bulb t5 lighting the tank. I have a 10 gallon sump with ASM mini g skimmer. Roughly 27 gallons total with a JBJ ATO. I do weekly 3-4 gallon water changes with reef crystals. Tank has been up and going for a good while. I believe since the beginning of last fall if I remember correctly. The tank has settled nicely since it was an upgrade from another tank so mostly established stock of rock.

At the sand bed, directly below the light I get about 120-130 ish par if I remember right.

So, what type of Clam, if any would the experts here suggest should I ever get the opportunity?

I have a one eyed wyoming white clownish, cryptic wrasse and tailspot blenny. Along with the usually hermits, Nass. Snails and a couple of small turbos. Tank has been set up since the beginning of fall last year. I cut remember the exact month right now. I'd guess it's around 4 months by now. That's not including the tank that most of the rocks came from which was set up for 2+ years.

Well like I mentioned in the first post this is for the future. I am looking for ideas on types of clams that are semi slow growing (if any) and whether or not they would even be possible under the current lighting I gave in the first post.

I've been keeping my Tridacna Crocea for 2+ yrs under 4x24w T5HO. Placed high up about 9-11" from the lights. My tank is a 26g bowfront. I think you'll be fine :)

Do you have any corals?

Yes. I have quote a few corals I've been keeping since my upgrade from my previous tank. I'd list them, but it's easier to refer you to a thread of mine in nano reefs. I don't have a link. Sorry.

Those two types sound like good plans. Thanks for the ideas.

Maybe I missed something but are you dosing Calc or using Kalk. I had a Maxiam that didn't do much until I started using Kalk and two part. Furthermore be careful if you vodka dose I lost a prized Maxiam to it. Obviously I made some assumptions but just throwing it out there.

No you didn't miss anything. I do not dose my tank with anything. I rely solely on water changes weekly with reef crystals. I'm not looking for explosive growth, but if need be I'll dose what I need should I actually get a clam in the future. RC is know to not uphold ca and mg very well. So I'll lrobably have to look into it.
