So I moved 10 hours away for job relocation and brought my tank with. I had a 9" beautiful Derasa clam with a tourquoise rim, and a 5" more standard Derasa clam. I grew both of them from about 2". Unfortunately, I think the move was very tough on them and I lost both clams. When I initially started with both of them, I had a 2 inch sand bed, now I am completely bare bottom. My tank is starting to get settled in and I am getting to stable parameters again.

What types of clams do well on bare bottom tanks? I know some might prefer sand, while other prefer rock.

Also, any suggestions on website to visit that sell quality clams?

Thanks!

I’ve had terrible luck with clams in the past. Then someone told me that maximas like the rock. I placed a little baby max in a shell, where he attached, the I glued the shell to a rock about half way up. Since you have a bare bottom, why don’t you try a max on your rock work?

Crocea and Maxima like to attach to hard surfaces. Squamosa and Deresa like the sand. You can always keep a bowl of sand in your aquarium for the clams. The issue with having Crocea and Maxima on the bottom is that they are so far from the light.

Don't want go off-topic, but imo clam will be fine after 10 hours trip.
What happened?

Well, it actually went through 15 hours of sitting in a bucket with a heater and pump, then 10 hours on the road in the back of a truck, and then ~6 more hours sitting inside of a house waiting for me to set up the tank. I used completely new water when I reset my tank, it did fine for a few days and then they both completely died in a day after. I think I should've tried to keep more of my old water so the clam did not have to go through such a shock with brand new water.

I had a derasa for 6 years on bare bottom. They will move around a lot but it didn't have any issues. Few ppl locally have had squammy and derasa on BB for years as well.
