Clam under Kessil a360w

This post grew legs over the past 24hrs haha.

eea60 - Yes I have watched that MACNA video start to finish (all of them actually) and I couldn't agree more. They are not cheap, but compared to the abundance of DIY LEDs etc I don't think anyone can say Kessil's are garbage (and I'm not getting that here). Price, look, shadowing etc are all fair opinions.

The PAR readings of a Kessil can be difficult to gauge accurately as I understand it, at least without a very expensive meter which I am not willing to buy at this time.

I will admit that with my rock work set up the way it is I do have a couple of 'dead spots' that I will be looking to fill in with some sort of alternative. I absolutely love the Kessil controler, its easy as can be and allows complete control of color and intensity in increments of 5%. I dont know what else I can say, the 'shimmer' from the Kessil's is amazing and the shadow cast by fish is just like what I see when I go diving its very cool.

Not for everyone, but I would endorse kessil. I think you will all see the new fixture at MACNA DC this year as well. I'm lucky I will be able to attend this year!

Keep the posts coming!

Agree.
I saw the AP700 at NY palooza... It is SICK!
I have been in contact with Kessil regarding syncing the AP700 & 360's, but no hope of that yet.

I may just buy that and run the 360's for total coverage on new tank.....still debating.$$$

Hello auer,

Not to be discurging but I recently took par levels off my kessil 360 with the light 8" off the water line, getting a par of 200 just 6 inches below the water line at 100%. At the depth you are trying to place the coral I'm afraid will not be enough for clams.

If that were my tank I would put them at that top shelf on the right. I have a apogee par meter that I lend out to members on here.

Kessils are one of those lights with a very proprietary blend of colors and leds .. They Dont read accurate at all on par meters ..

if you still assume kessil is putting out 200 par 6 inches under water .. do a simple test put an acro that you dislike ( just saying, please dont do this as it would kill the acro for sure) at that depth and kessil at 100% and about 45% color ;) you would see the result of it in couple days ..
i so happened to leave my kessil at that config on a nuvo 16 and it fried pretty much everything even on sand bed. kessils are stronger than most leds on market today .. and also very diff from many other leds out there too .. :)

Realizing that we are more on kessil than clams I apologize but will post anyway.

If you look at the photo. You can see the Acros on the left and a birds eat sticking out from the shelf on the right. The Acros on the left are growing and the birds nest has consistently looked great (another hard to see birds nest is growing number on the right as well)

Just recently, the two Acros on the left have started to turn a bit whitish on the 'trunk' but the tips that are higher up are still dark green and have full polyp extension.

Any ideas??

I just did a Google search for crocea plus kessil and found many people keeping clams under kessil lights. A lot even using the old 150 kessils.

I'd say that's proof right there. Mine bleached out some montiporas that were on the bottom.

Came home today and everyone looked great, full color and the clam was in full display. It moved on its axis a bit to more squarely face the light. Not drastic. 1/2" or so.

I have my Maxima on the sand bed under a 160We and it's doing fine. I'd have to measure, but I believe it's about 16"-18" to the sand bed directly under the Kessil which I run at 40% color and 75% intensity.

About 2 months now. I placed it right under the Kessil on a flat piece of rock, but it decided to move off the rock and sit on the sb instead.

Looks happy to me ill probably give one a shot maybe one of the less demanding ones to start off with

haha any update on the kessil and clam? I’ve had a blue maxima under my 2 a360 wides in a jbj 45 for almost a year now and I can tell noticeable growth with the clam as well as it looks happy as can be! kessil are about 7-8” off water and clam is in sand bed.
