Clam with black boxes?

Just wondering if it can be done. I have 2 165w lights on my 55.

Water params are pretty stable. Not sure what I need to be keeping an eye on.

Someone local got some in and I want one.

That's plenty of light for a clam, even on the bottom of the tank. Keep parameters stable, you should be good to go. Check the clam very well for pyramids, has reaction to shadows and mantle looks healthy.

I have mine turned down to less than 50% for my lps. Still good?

Im completely new to the thought of one.

You may have to turn up the intensity, but do it very slowly over time or your lps will not be happy

I don't know how strong the intensity at 50% with your light system but clam never have enough or too much light, you won't get any problem giving clam too much light but if you set your light too low then you will kill your clam in no time. Everytime, I increase my light intensity I can see my clams are more happier, especially those clams sitting on the tank bottom.

If you increase the light do it slowly. The clam and corals need to acclimate to avoid light shock.

So i am acclimating a new deresa clam right now with a black box. The blues are about 65% and whites are about 20%. Perhaps @saltyfilmfolks can elaborate on this lux meter reading at the waters surface...

He may be able to assist with par estimation. And where you would go from here

I plan on increasing by 6000 lux every 4-5 days

By the way, its a 300 watt mars aqua 11 inches off the water, 10 inches from the white ball sensor

Interesting... Glad i posted that. Ive been acclimating the deresa for 2 weeks in an sps dominant tank. 18" water column.

Looks like i will not be increasing the lights anymore?

Yea, maybe double check. What % are you getting the 60k at?
My sb gets 40k at 12in.
I haven't looked at the mars Lux in a while.

I have a 240 Gal tank with 3 Chinese black boxes and my Clam has been alive for a month and a half. Very reactive still! I got mine at reef a palooza for 40$, I recommend a Derasa Clam since those are the easier ones to take care of a beginner. Just make sure your salinity is at 1.025 or even 1.026 since clams do like the saltiness. Also the bigger they are (more than 2 inches) the easier they are to take care of. Always place at the bottom as well.

Sure. For a while depending on which clam. Maximas and squamosas grow fairly slowly. A deresa, hippopus, or gigas would grow more quickly.
