Clam with SPS in QT

Hey Everyone,

I’m putting in an order with liveaquaria this week and was wanting to include a blue maxima clam (3/4-1”). I currently have 10 sticks (frags about 1”) in a 10G QT and was wondering if it would be ok to put the clam in with them. I’m using a black box as the QT lighting, so I don’t think light will be an issue. I’m more concerned about keeping up with alk and cal in that small of a tank. Could I dose Kalk in my ATO or something else? Or would it be best to wait and QT the clam by itself? This will be my first clam.

I am researching getting my first clam here soon as well. The people over in the clam section have strongly advised me not to buy a clam under 3in as they don't have a good survival rate

Thanks for the heads up. After researching more I’ve decided to get a 2 3/4” Derasa from the Divers Den. I’ll just plan on checking my levels daily and adjust accordingly. Sounds like they can get quite large, but that’s just a good excuse to use on the wife for a larger tank! We’ll see how it goes.

Exactly! My girlfriend is the one who wants the clam badly, little does she know it will out grow our 40b very quickly. Then my plan to roll out the 120g will fall into place nicely!! Hahah
