Clams and bb?!

I've only ever tried 3 clams. 2 maximas and 1 crocea.
Saw what I thought was a gigas clam today for sale. Large. $199
I didn't buy it cuz my tank is bb.
Thoughts? I asked about a clam cozy or a cradle but they didn't have any he said.
Deff different from the dersea and maximas that were their and available. I wanted to buy it and may go back.... any opinions yay or nay?

Google and wiki say when they're smaller they attach to hard surfaces but when they get larger they detach and support themselves.

the top one is in a Tupperware, squared but cut out U shaped opening for the clam, the second Derasa is in a similar Tupperware, the squamosas sit directly on the floor.

Hippopus clams' mantles don't extend over their shell at all, so those are certainly not hippopus.

Big clams mean big calcium/alkalinity draw, so if you go for something larger count on needing a lot of dosing. Not exactly sure what you're asking, most giant clams will get to be "too big" for any small to medium reef when fully grown, but as it could take a decade or two, it's not often the main concern when buying one, especially when they don't move so they can be a centerpiece of a smaller tank in the long term as they grow out.

My question is can I place a clam in a bb tank with success. A person postes their diy tuppaware holders that I didn't even think about.
Yes the mantle doesn't cover the shell. It is a hippopus clam.
Different why I mention it.

I kept crocea, teardrop, maxima, squammys, derasas, hippos, and gigas for years on BB with no issues. Kept some in my Rubbermaid downstairs sump until donated to the zoo.

Nice looking clams. I’ve had a couple of maximas in the past, Eunice ate them.
I purchased a mimosa a few years ago when PEA had them. It’s still growing strong.

Bare bottom fine as long as you provide a base or cradle in which it wont tip.

Fwiw none of those people in my photo above are in a cradle or base, however they do need to be a certain size before they don’t flip or attach to the bottom which is what most my small clams did. For really small guys or while monitoring for pyramid snails cut short Tupperware with sand work great if needed until they are of size (2-3”) where they stop tipping.
