I have been talking to a local reefer about buying a very large clam. From the pics it appears to be a Derasa and she says it is near 12" long. From the first picture (the clam was about 5") it looks very nice and I am very interested. She sent me updated pics and it has apparently lost a LOT of color. Is this common as clams grow? Would it be possible for the clam to regain its color? She said it may be due to the bulbs being very old and nutrient issues in her tank.

If it is stuck like this it just won't work for me. All of my clams have great color and I don't think this will work next to my Tuamotu maxima! If he will color back up then I am game. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

mine is huge and has not lost any color.....how old are your bulbs? have you had any changes in the water lately?

It is a Squamosa and yes sometimes clams loose their color over time, I am guessing that the old bulbs are playing into this clams color loss. I would be suprized if it gains the color back but it may...

litenyaup - this clam is not in my tank. It is a clam that I am considering buying from a local reefer. The first pic was from about a year ago and the second two pics are more recent. I am interested to know if water conditions can cause loss of color like this and whether it is reversible. If it is then I will buy the clam. If not then I will not buy it.

it looks like it might make just needs some better light and if u add some phytoplankton once a week to your tank the color will come back

better or new lights, good neutrition, and a little TLC....$75 for a 12" clam....do it!

Thanks for the info, guys... I think I am going to give it a shot. I'll keep you posted! He is going under 2x120W LEDs with two maximas, a derasa, and a crocea. Almost got the whole collection in my clam garden!
