How long is to long to leave a clam on a half shell in the reef tank?

My black saddle puffer loves them and would like to put one in when I leave for work and remove it 10 hours later but worried that is to much time?

Seems like a lot but for my eel, I leave the shells in for a while.
I mean once the meat is gone it's just a shell

They dont eat all of the meat on that is what I am wondering but if I pull it out after 10 hours then it shouldn't add any ammonia

10 hrs seems like quite a long time. Have you tried feeding less. You could slice out 1/2 the clam feed that in the shell and then freeze and shave the frozen clam to add the next day.

This is a partialy loaded question , because its subjective . i.e. what size tank , livestock ? and how old a system , whats your filtration ?
