Has anybody successfully had a clam in their tank without using Rodi water. More so does anybody have a clam with tap water

Everyone’s tap water is different but you need to try to provide clams with the best possible environment so I wouldn’t skimp on makeup water.. for the price of a lot of clams you can get a basic RO unit.

I'm sure a "tap clam" is possible, but I pretty much agree with Retro....RODI systems can be pretty cheap.

Do you have a water test for your tap water?

Is there a specific reason for not wanting to do RODI?

Yes I do. And no..no reason just why spend the money if you don't need to.

Clams can be very finicky and the best success has been with those with ocean water or ro/di units. I would stick with that. Since tap water can be so varied and can change all the time in composition, you are better off knowing what you are getting rather than guessing. JMO

copper alone from your house internal pipes and metals and debris along with chemicals from the treatment facility may not be a good combination for a sensitive invert like clam. Its hard to keep them alive as is in perfect tanks.
No matter how pure tap water is there will always be elements you dont want in your tank.

Like they stated everyone’s water supply is different, example my taps water TDS is around 32 my fellow reefer in Yonkers just a 15min drive from my house his Tap waters TDS is 200+ another reefer in my same town as me about 15 blocks away from me has tap water TDS in the low 100s so every source is not the same, I had a post on this and a reefer reported his tap wate TDS around 12-15, but RODI units are cheap and very easy to use and instal, will cost you the same as a clam why risk it? I’m sure that won’t be the only thing in your tank that could benefit from clean water
