so my parents just got me a maxima clam and was just curious on the placement of it, id really liek it to stay on the sand and i have 250 watt metal halides but i wanted to make sure i could have it there thanks!

What size tank (mainly depth)? Up on a rock where it's stable should be good. Where you put it, just make sure you leave it in place. Maximas (as with most things) like to be stressed as little as possible, so wherever you choose, I would just leave it and allow it to move from there on it's own. I lost mine due to believing it was being knocked off a rock I choose for it. To many moves stressed it and I lost it. Good Luck Any pics?

its late now but tomm i can put some pics up and height i believe is 24 inch, if i place it on the sand will it move up onto a rock if it wants?

They like being attached to a rock. If you want it on the sand bed, set a few rocks down in the sand bed and set the clam on them. And yes it will move to where it is comfortable. Mine actually climed part way up a rock and then a couple months later came back down and planted himself on top of a zoa colony on a small 2" rock. He moved off the zoas, but still attached to the rock. Moving them manually also risks tearing their foot.

looked great today im really happy with it :)

Nice looking electric blue Maxima! It looks to me that you have it in the corner of the tank? If so I would try to get it out in the center directly under a bulb where it can get plenty of light. Ideally it should be up on the rocks though.

It really depends on your lighting and how intense it is where the clam is sitting. I have 3 Maxima's in my tank that are about 24" away from my 6 bulb T5 setup and they are doing great there.
