Very good.. I will run with it. Thanks for all the feed back and posting of pic's. Having a v3 sump like us requires little more pluming work. One last thing is what the reasoning for raising the Clarisea up around 3-4 inches. I have seen others do that as well. Again for all the help.

B - FLOW RATE

In addition, the flow rate through the filter will also make a difference - the higher the flow rate through the ClariSea fleece filter, the more "sensitive" the filter is to the filter fleece becoming blocked by particles. Higher flow rates will cause greater amounts of fleece advance - i.e. the float switch is triggered more frequently with more flow as the water level in the Clarisea filter rises more quickly.

C - HEIGHT ABOVE WATER

Finally, the height that the unit sits above the water will also affect fleece life.

If the ClariSea unit is positioned so that only the bottom of the unit is in the water then there is a tall head of water pressure within the unit to force water through the filter and the fleece will last longer.

Conversely, if the unit is almost fully submerged then there will be a low head pressure to force water through the fleece and the water level will rise easier, triggering the float and moving on the fleece.

We would generally not suggest immersing the unit by more than 200mm and generally the higher the better.

CONCLUSION

So, from the above it is clear that there are numerous factors that affect the apparent "performance" of the ClariSea filter. All of these factors will have an effect on the rate of usage of the fleece! This makes it very difficult to state a flow rate for the ClariSea Filter.

If you find that you are experiencing a higher fleece consumption than you would like, then you may want to adjust the bypass of the ClariSea filter to decrease the flow rate that actually passest through the filter. Please make small adjustments each time and monitor to achieve the fleece consumption that you are happy with.

Any thoughts about whether the Clarisea would fit in a 170 sump? Anything different from the 250 to be aware of?

I would double check on the width of the sump where the filter cup sits. I may be mistaken, but judging by my math I think you only have 136mm of space and the Clarisea needs 145mm. If you have the space then you could use the same plumbing setup.

I tried finding a stand to lift up the ClariSea up to the recommend height of 7-8 inch submerged but gave up. Order some some acrylic shelves off Amazon but did not work. So followed MistaPenguim suggested and was pretty great idea. The open structure of the egg crate will also allow water flow. Not off to hook up the pluming

I also tee'd off the return and installed ball valves to use the socks or the clair-sea.
I removed the sock holders in my last sump and learned that was a mistake so i will keep them for now.

I bet down the road I am going to wish I installed a gate valve instead of using the Red Sea. I guess I will cross that bridge down the road. With a Reefer 250 there is not way you can keep both the socks just not enough room

I wanted to remove all those baffels SOOOOOO bad, but after watching the video and knowing that @ some point I will need to use the socks (GFO/Carbon) I went the lazy way

I've got a reefer peninsula 500... would people advise going for the Clarisea SK 3000 or SK 5000? I note the flow rate differences (800 GPH to about 1300 GPH). I'll have a mixed-reef tank with intermediate flow... probably about 800 GPH. I've read about the rolls running a bit faster in some circumstances... perhaps best to go bigger?!

No but will stop when the roll runs out. I am able to staple new roll on the end and keep going.

Yes, when there are only a few feet left I unroll it, staple to the new roll, roll it back onto the new roll and put it back. Then, I change the used roll when doing my weekly tank chores.
