Hi all,

My problems with fish seem to be never ending.

I just noticed yesterday that my clarkii clown female had a lot of tiny white spots on its body, these look like small white bumps. Don’t know if this is ich or what.

History of this fish is that it has been in my tank for a little over 2 years. Water parameters are consistently in the normal range of

Alk: 9.5
Cal: 420
Mag:1250
Salinity: 1.025
Temp: 79-80 in summer

Recent additions in the last 1 days are: long tentacle anemone, lamarck angelfish and a few anthias.

The clown started hosting the anthias just last week on Tuesday.

Don’t know if these are sting marks or ich?

Could be ich. I doubt it is a sting mark. Stings usually present themselves as larger dark areas rather than white spots. With the new additions ich is a possibility. Did you just add the new livestock yesterday or was that a typo?

New livestock was added about 10 days ago. If it’s ich, should I just catch the clownfish and put him in QT?

If it is ich, you would need to move the clownfish and any other fish to the QT and treat them accordingly, as well as allow your DT to be fallow for 76 days to eradicate ich.

ah man! thats going to be a pain. . all the anthias and bigger fish i have are difficult to catch. Is there any way that i can monitor it for a couple more days and see if it is ich or not?

Also, i am surprised that my clownfish is displaying these symptoms given that it has been the oldest resident in the tank.

I cant make a solid determination based on the pics you provided. Sometimes early stage brook (which is very common in clowns) can appear ich or velvet like.

Many people run systems with ich present and implement systems to manage the free swimmers. Its not a route I would take but that is just me. This may be a good read for you:

Thanks much for the response! Great read..:) I am currently in the process of buying a 36W UV sterilizer to put on the tank. This and the nutrition part are huge attractors to me.

I am also in the process of setting up a QT tank, but unfortunately space is a constraint for me. :(

How fast does ich manifest on fish? I.e how long do I have before I should fake action?

I am buying a UV filter and installing it tomorrow, I am hoping this helps with the issue a little
