Clean filter sponge on BioCube (rear chamber)

I have the 16-gallon BioCube, and I can’t, for the life of me, get the sponge-like mechanical filter out of the back chamber for cleaning. Any advice?

I am talking about the mechanical filter that acts as the last line of defense before the return pump. It’s all the way at the bottom of the back chamber, and that chamber is so small, it’s impossible for me to grab even with 12” tweezers I bought. I’m thinking of trying to fish it out with a reconfigured metal clothes hanger next.

I have never seen the chamber sizes in the 16 they must be tiny, we have a 32 and it pulls straight up and out on the return pump chamber if I remember correctly.

If it's anything like my 29g Biocube it should slide straight up. You could also try pushing it up from the middle chamber.

Yea, I mean, it will slide right up I’m sure, if I can get a grip on it. Just wondering how I can get a grasp on it. Sounds like I have fat hands, lol

Try it the other way and put your finger into the hole from the pump chamber side and push up.
