i was wondering how long my fish and coral would survive in display tank, with a power head circulating water in display tank. I want to empty out my sump and clean it out. I want to clean my skimmer, return pump and reactor pump. Wondering if fish and coral would survive for 2-3 hours without the sump feeding water back into display tank for that long

Certainly, I have seen numerous tanks survive power outages where there were only battery backups for the power heads.

And think about this as well, unless you caught that fish or harvested that coral it was shipped at some point and survived transit in a small amount of unaerated ammonia filled water....

I do this all the time. I had a minor disaster last night and my sump was empty for about 5 hours. Only circulation was the powerheads in the display.

I put the Apex temp probe in the display to keep an eye on temperature.

I clean the sump and everything in it at least quarterly. Usually takes 3 hours. No problem. I just leave the in tank circulation pumps running. If your home is running on the cool side this winter, and your heaters are in the sump you may want to consider moving them to the DT while performing maintenance.
