I will be setting up a rimless tank 48*24*16 dimension. I need suggestions on clean up crew and can't have the snails that will commit suicide by slithering out of the tank because there will be no top brace and it will be open top. I want to avoid crabs, but I think I'm stuck with them. Any snails that will stay on the rocks and sand?

I don't use crabs in my rimless tank. I've lost a couple of nerites and ceriths from them going over the edge, but about it. I'd recommend a screen top for the tank it will help keep everyone inside. CUC isn't the only things you may want to worry about, but that will depend on what fish you stock, but even then doesn't guarantee it won't happen. Nassarius snails don't really clean rocks or algae but will stay for the most part on the sand bed. They really only come out at feeding time to clean up leftovers so i wouldn't use them for keeping any kind of algae in check. Hermits I've even seen climb up the silicon seams in a glass tank.
