I have had my reef tank up for over two years. I use to make sure i had plenty of clean up crew. Most of my hermits and snails have died off and i dont see much of a difference. My question is are they really worth it?

Oh yea, they get the stuff you can't see in the rocks. Once your system is totally clean, like now, you don't need quite as large a CUC as you once had, they usually starve out because of lack of food.

They are definitely worth it. I periodically will add new additions to the CUC and only add a small bit at a time.

I don't have much of a CUC at all. I have a few random snails and blue leg hermits but I probably wouldn't add anymore.

I think it is the little stuff that makes the reef tank interesting. Plus, in addition to cleaning, they add some natural food sources when they reproduce.
